Chiropractic techniques are based around the spinal column, which forms the central nervous system along with the brain. Nerve endings are connected to every other part of the body, and sometimes, when the vertebrae around the spine aren't where they should be, they can affect the nerves elsewhere in the body.

"...Nerve endings are connected to every other part of the body, and sometimes, when the vertebrae around the spine aren't where they should be, they can affect the nerves elsewhere in the body.."

Healing such a problem doesn't necessarily mean treating the source of the injury, but instead adjusting the vertebrae or the tissue around the spine. Once the structure is back in place, the pain will disappear. The technique can be used to heal pain in the lower back or neck, ease muscle and joint aches, correct vascular problems, and address respiratory problems, such as asthma and sinus inflammations.

Many people associate chiropractic technique with sudden thrusts to the bone, resulting in a cracking or popping sound. While some chiropractic procedures involve that kind of treatment, many employ gentler or subtler techniques. Some are fairly low tech, such as Applied Kinesiology, which treats the muscles around the spine and other parts of the body. Others employ advanced equipment, such as Atlas Orthogonality, which uses x-rays and applied sonic percussive instruments to realign the bones.
